According to the information reaching us, some members of the All Progressives Congress in collaboration with some Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC staff were discovered to have presented forged documents containing withdrawal forms of the All Progressives Congress, APC candidates for the Lagos State House of Assembly (LAHA) in Amuwo Odofin Constituency 2, Ajeromi Ifelodun Constituency 1 and Lagos Island Constituency 2 to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC for the purpose of substituting the lawful candidates of APC with some other persons.
The signatures of the candidates were forged respectively. The three candidates for Lagos State House of Assembly whose identities are forged have earlier written the INEC Chairman through their Lawyers having noticed the possibility of such forgery.
The candidates are Honourable Rauf Olawale Age-Sulaiman, representing Amuwo-Odofin Constituency 2, Honourable Olumoh Saad Lukman, representing Ajeromi Ifelodun Constituency 1 and Honourable Olanrewaju Suleiman Afinni representing Lagos Island Constituency 2. The three candidates were present in person at the venue of the exercise on Saturday the 1st of December to further affirm that they have never been party to such arrangement and as such, they are still the candidates for the House of Assembly election coming up on 2nd of March 2019. However, they said they did not empower any person or group of persons to forge their identities. They further assert that; the Electoral Act succinctly forbids the substitution of candidates of Political Parties after the nomination and submission of the list of candidates to the Commission after the expiry of the statutory window. Section 33 of the Act is opposite.
S.33 …” A Political Party shall not be allowed to change or substitute a candidate whose name has been submitted pursuant to section 31 of this Act, except in the case of death or withdrawal by the candidate”.
