All is set now for what is to be done for Facebook to fight fake news on its platform.
Popular social media giant, Facebook is presently starting to make plans on how it intends to fight the distribution of fake news on its platform. Facebook to fight fake news is what it tends to do in one line.
Having witnessed the spread of fake news on its platform during the just concluded Las Vegas shooting where many users of the social media platform were spreading the incorrect news on the platform.
The Social media giant is currently testing a “context” button which users would use to read the true status of each news being seen on the platform. The button would ensure news sources can be verified in-situ and this is expected to be pulled from Facebook and other sources such as Wikipedia and other sources.
Facebook To Fight Fake News using the “context” button and although it is being tested at present, it hopes to become one of the features for the future in the tech space.
According to Facebook product managers Andrew Anker, Sara Su and Jeff Smith in a blog post;
“We are testing a button that people can tap to easily access additional information without needing to go elsewhere,”
“The additional contextual information is pulled from across Facebook and other sources, such as information from the publisher’s Wikipedia entry.”
In some cases, if that information is unavailable, Facebook “will let people know, which can also be helpful context,” said the post
“Helping people access this important contextual information can help them evaluate if articles are from a publisher they trust, and if the story itself is credible.”
